WellingtonNZ- Opportunities for Impact through ProcurementAs part of our engagement with WellingtonNZ, we conducted qualitative interviews with Māori business owners in Wellington to capture their lived experiences, alongside interviews with regional buyers to identify the challenges and successes they have encountered. This was complemented by an analysis of existing economic data to assess the current state of social procurement and supplier diversity in the region.

Ministry for the Environment (MFE)- Supplier Diversity and Development PlanPuna Awarau were engaged to support the procurement team to develop a supplier diversity and development plan for the organisation. This would aid in the agency achieving and exceeding the progressive procurement targets set by the government. This involved analysing cross-departmental data as well as interviews with key staff across the organisation.

Social impact assessment in major constructionWe gathered insights through interviews with Māori businesses and internal staff, complemented by existing survey data. Using a mix of qualitative and quantitative methods, we identified the key enablers of success, the challenges encountered, and opportunities for improvement. This comprehensive approach provided valuable insights to inform future strategies for enhancing Māori business engagement and driving more effective outcomes.

Impact assessment of Iwi led pest controlWe were engaged to assess the cultural, environmental, economic, and social impacts of an iwi-led pest control initiative delivered in partnership with external agencies. The goal was to understand the holistic benefits of this kaupapa, beyond standard environmental measures. Our approach combined kaupapa Māori research methods with robust evaluation tools. We conducted in-depth interviews with those directly involved in the mahi — from iwi partners to operational teams — and analysed existing data sources to surface meaningful insights.

OSPRI- Supplier Diversity and Development PlanPuna Awarau were engaged to develop a Supplier Diversity and Development Plan for the organisation. Puna Awarau were also involved in supporting OSPRI with Iwi/Māori Land Trust procurement across the Hawkes Bay and Taupō regions.

Link Alliance- Social Procurement Report Puna Awarau were engaged to support the Social Outcomes team to develop a Social Procurement Report, to capture the learnings and insights of procuring from Māori and Pasifika businesses. This involved reporting on outcomes achieved, case studies on the businesses and gathering internal staff perspectives on the strengths and challenges of social procurement implementation.
